Screen capture using Camtasia
This folder contains material to support the use of screen capture software in teaching. It contains the workshop slides and supporting training materials for the use of Camtasia (version 7) which is the standard screen capture software used at UH. At present only the Windows version is available through Information Hertfordshire.
Please note that Camtasia 7 and earlier versions are not compatible with Windows 10.
If you are new to using Camtasia we suggest that you read the slides that were used with our face to face workshops and then watch some of the short but powerful tutorial videos produced by Techsmith the people behind Camtasia.
Camtasia Basics
There are four stages to Producing a Camtasia video
- Record your screen or PowerPoint presentation.
- Carryout any editing such as adding titles, transitions and animation.
- Produce your video from your edited recording.
- Make your video available online through the video portal on StudyNet or post to YouTube.
Underlying the technology is he pedagogical approach you wish to take. We would suggest that recordings are at most 15 - 20 minutes long and include opportunities for students to pause the video for reflection or engagement in a task. We would strongly advise against just migrating your current practice online.
Once you have created your video you may wish to upload it to the StudyNet Video Portal. Help and support from Information Hertfordshire is available by clicking this link
